stop trying to fit in

You don't need to fit into some predetermined category - you ARE your own unique niche.

You don't need to fit into some predetermined category - you ARE your own unique niche. Let me explain...

I see so many people, maybe even you, trying hard to force themselves into a defined area or topic.

And it's limiting their creativity and authenticity, especially with content. They hold themselves back because they're afraid of not belonging anywhere.

Not too long ago, I was totally in that same mindset myself, if I'm being honest.

For years, I only talked about branding and strategy. And I was weirdly nervous to share my other varied interests with the world. I had this self-imposed idea that "branding" was my branded zone, and I shouldn't step out of it.

What made it even worse? I actually started gaining some decent attention by staying in that fixed spot. I grew a sizeable audience on IG and LinkedIn. We grew our modest design studio to a brand strategy consultancy over the years as well.

But eventually, it happened - I reached the limit.

I got bored of my own content. I knew I was limiting myself but I was too scared to share the other parts of my life because I didn't think anyone would care.

But things are different now. And so many of you have complimented me on that but I want to use this email to introduce you to this.

Here's why you should want the opposite approach: There's nothing wrong with operating in a particular niche.

But there's a limited ceiling you'll inevitably hit that way. A limit to how many different types of people can genuinely connect with the fullest extent of who you are.

We're all multi-passionate human beings at our core - with a range of hobbies, curiosities, and specific quirks making us individuals. Leaning into ALL of that gives you so many more avenues and entry points to forge authentic connections.

So here's my advice for finding and embracing your own niche - your fully-expressed self:

  • Accept where you are. Admit if you've been holding yourself back from fully growing and showing all dimensions of your perspective.

  • Make a list of the different topics, thoughts, and interests you feel shy or hesitant to openly discuss and share about. Everything you've been keeping hidden.

  • Ease into it gradually. Each week, make a point of planting your flag in one of those "random" interest areas through a post, story, or share that side of yourself with people who haven't seen it before.

  • Keep doing this for a while until you build confidence in each unique aspect of who you are. Then rinse and repeat, unveiling a new dimension every couple of months.

Before you know it, the world will start to recognize YOU as the exploration-worthy niche - not whatever restrictive box you've been trying to squeeze into up until this point.

Embrace your enlightened uniqueness, friend. That's where the real magic is.

Let me know if any of this resonates or if you need a pep talk! Always here to provide a nudge towards more self-expression.
